The Responders:

An Oral History of Covid-19 in St. Louis

In April of 2020, Simona Sarafinovska and Craig Pearson recorded conversations with over a dozen medical students, faculty, and administrators at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. These individuals described, in real time, the community’s response to the pandemic and their personal experiences as essential workers in medicine and science.

With annual follow-up interviews in 2021 and 2022, these conversations provided the material for an oral history documentary produced by Rebecca Nolan. “The Responders” is an account of an unfolding crisis and its effects on a group of individuals on the front lines.
